Lanzi on Provisional Pole in France

DFX Corse’s Lorenzo Lanzi took the provisional pole for the final round of the World Superbike Championship at Magny-Cours on a day of close competition in France.Italians took the top four spots with Lanzi lapping in 1:38.856 mins. in a session when the top 16 riders were covered by .710 secs. Next came Ducati Xerox’s Michel Fabrizio, recently crowned world champion Max Biaggi (Alitalia Aprilia), and Supersonic Ducati’s Luca Scassa.”We still have some work to do tomorrow, to see if we can further improve traction and the feeling I have with the front, but I’m happy with what we’ve got doe and with the progress I’ve made,” Fabrizio said. “I’d like to finish in the top three on Sunday. I’ve never been on the podium here and I’m feeling fairly confident for now.”Biaggi was suffering from the flu and concerned how it would affect him over the course of the weekend.”In spite of the times, which are very good, I’m worried about this flu,” he said. “I was able to express myself the way I wanted to on the track, but I’m getting off the bike very, very tired.”The second row was more eclectic, with four different nationalities represented. Brit Cal Crutchlow (Sterilgarda Yamaha) was fifth, followed by Japanese Nori Haga (Ducati Xerox), who lost time due to a crash, BMW’s Australian Troy Corser, and Spaniard Carlos Checa on the Althea Ducati.The final two riders in the top ten were Brits, Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam in front of Suzuki Alstare’s Leon Haslam.
