Rea May Miss World Superbike Finale

Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Jonathan Rea may be forced to sit out the World Superbike season finale due to injuries suffered in Superpole qualifying at last weekend’s race in Imola, Italy.Rea suffered small fractures to his left collarbone and the scaphoid in his right wrist and had to withdraw from last weekend’s race. He’ll be in Magny-Cours, France for the final race of the year, but won’t make a decision on whether he’ll ride until Friday morning practice. The Englishman, who recently inked a deal to stay with the team, could lose third in the championship if he’s forced to sit. Althea Racing Ducati’s Carlos Checa is only 14 points behind Rea and coming off his best weekend in more than two years. Last weekend Checa won both legs in Imola, something he hasn’t done since his Miller Motorsports Park sweep in 2008.”It is too early to say if I can ride at Magny-Cours, but I will wait until just before the race to make a final decision,” Rea said. “It is more important for the team that I start testing for next year free of injury and with no niggling physical problems, so we will see how things are.”
