Press Release | August 27, 2010

The following is a press release from MotoGP… The MotoGP World Championship will call on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway once more in 2011 after an extension of the current agreement between the circuit and MotoGP commercial rights holders Dorna Sports was made.

The race weekend, which Dorna will propose to the FIM to be scheduled for August 26th-28th 2011, will be the fourth time that the premier class of motorcycle racing has called on the iconic circuit, and will deliver more fantastic action to the enthusiastic American fans who have attended the event since it first took place at Indianapolis in 2008.

Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said: “The extension of the agreement for a further year allows all parties involved to continue providing a superb weekend of racing at Indianapolis next season. It permits all possibilities to be explored at the end of 2011 when the current contractual agreement with the MSMA and IRTA is reviewed, as MotoGP continues to develop into a new era in the sport in 2012”.

Jeff Belskus, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation President and CEO, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome back the stars and machines of MotoGP in 2011. This is a unique weekend that our fans enjoy, bringing the international flavour and great action of MotoGP to the Speedway. It has been a successful race for the last three years, including a great partnership with Red Bull, and we are working hard to continue to develop the event.”

The announcement of the agreement coincides with the celebration of the 2010 Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend – August 27th-29th.
