The final day of action at the 2010 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship from Loretta Lynn’s was a beautiful one, under sunny skies with a large crowd on hand to witness the nation’s fastest amateurs compete for national championships on the last day of racing. A loaded schedule on Saturday thanks to rain earlier in the week resulted in 21 motos, each of which crowning an overall winner and awarding a new number one plate.
True to form, the action at Loretta’s took plenty of twists and turns in the third and final motos, handing out heartbreak and surpises. Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson had a little of both… In the 250 A Pro Sport class which he had been dominating all week, Anderson suffered a disappointing mechanical problem and lost the title. It looked as though his hard luck would continue when he crashed three different times on the first lap of the final 450 A moto, but Anderson put his head down and rallied back up to a fifth place finish – good enough to claim the title.
The Supermini 2 class was one of the Day 5 highlights, as three riders came in looking for the title. Between Cooper Webb, Dakota Alix and Jace Owen, whoever won the race would also take the title. Owen went down early in the race, leaving Alix and Webb to put on a spectacular battle. When Alix hit the ground, it looked as though Webb would take an easy win, but on the last lap, Webb tangled with a lapper and went down, and second place rider Nick Gaines also crashed handing the win and the title to Owen who went from third to first only seconds from the checkered flag.
