Beach Beats Booby

LEXINGTON, OHIO, JULY 18 – Rockwall Performance Yamaha’s J.D. Beach extended his championship points lead by running away with the SuperSport race for the second day in a row on a hot and sunny afternoon at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.Unlike on Saturday when he led from the start, it took Beach a few laps to get going. It wasn’t until the fourth of 17 laps that he passed teammate Cameron Beaubier for the lead.Beaubier stuck with him for a number of laps until Beach upped his pace. He ran his fastest lap on the 10th and ran the lead up to 1.741 secs. From there it kept growing, ballooning to 12.941 secs. over Beaubier.Beach now has 202 points after eight races, to 167 for Beaubier. The fight over third was the best battle on the drag. Early in the race Dustin Dominguez had control, but in the second half he was joined by three riders and finally two, LTD Racing’s Huntley Nash and Tomas Puerta. There was fluidity in the order on every lap and the final lap was no different. Puerta went inside Dominguez into turn six, while Nash fronted the trio on the race to the flag. Dominguez came up the inside of Puerta in turn 11, but Puerta immediately countered and took back fourth. Dominguez had one last move, into turn13 at the end of Thunder Valley, but he couldn’t safely make the pass and had to settle for fifth while Nash joined the Rockwall boys on the podium.
