Johnny Campbell Racing gave Honda the top two overall motorcycle finishing positions at the SCORE Baja 500 in Baja California, Mexico, June 4-5. Kendall Norman & Quinn Cody gave Honda its 15th overall motorcycle victory in the race with a winning time of 8:47:00, averaging 49.96 mph on their JCR Honda CRF450X. In the elapsed-time race, the duo edged the twin Honda CRF450X of teammates Colton Udall & Jeff Kargola by just 26 seconds, officially. However, a dispute in scoring has the actual margin of victory around five minutes, but, either way, it was a close battle to the finish. Kendall Norman
It was the fourth overall victory in this race for Norman in the last five years.
Norman started for the team, Cody rode the middle half, and Norman finished off the last part.
“We didn’t have a single problem all day – which is pretty darn amazing, considering how tough and gnarly this course is,” Norman said. “I’m just really tired, but it feels good to be here in one piece and to get my fourth Baja 500 win.”
Udall handled the first and last portions of the race for his team.
“It was really rough out there,” Udall said. “It was really long and it took it out of me. We got whupped Quinn Codyby the A team [teammates Norman & Cody], and I’m kind of bummed about that, but congratulations to them.”
KTM returned to Baja and finished third overall with pilots Robert Underwood, David Pearson & Ivan Ramirez. The trio finished approximately 15 minutes behind the winning Norman/Kergola bike.
Fourth overall went to the winning Class 30 Honda team made up of Francisco Septian, Shane Esposito & Brian Pinard, and fifth overall went to the Class 40 Honda team of Louie Franco, Rick Johnson, Brett Helm, Jeff Kaplan & Scott Myers.
The Class 21 victory went to the Honda team comprised of Sol Saltzman, Matthew Carlson, Pete Schmidtmann, Bill Boyer & Ryan Kudla.
Jason Trubey, Carl Maasberg, Jeremy and Ron Purvines topped Class 20.
