Weimer Takes East-West Shootout Win

Jake Weimer took his number one plate for a spin in Las Vegas and racked up another win, topping off his championship-winning season with a victory at the Dave Coombs Sr. Memorial East-West Lites shootout. The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider took a convincing win at Sam Boyd Stadium leading the charge wire to wire and leading all three of his teammates to the finish, making it an all Pro Circuit podium with one to spare.

GEICO Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard was in the mix in the early laps of the race, running in the top five in the first few laps, but as Josh Hansen made his move by ducking to the inside in a 180-degree turn, Canard tipped over and fell all the way back to 13th place before he was able to rejoin the race. Canard worked hard to make his way back up through the pack, and climbed back inside the top ten only to crash again and slip right back to 13th place. In the end, a very frustrated Canard salvaged a top-10 finish.

The green bikes definitely stole the show in Las Vegas. Behind Weimer, the battle for podium positions raged on between Hansen, Christophe Pourcel and Dean Wilson. Pourcel sat in the runner up position in the early laps of the main event, but gave way to a hard-charging Wilson. Hansen soon followed suit, taking over third from Pourcel. The three remained tight throughout the main event.

Wilson held on to second place up until the last lap when Hansen relieved him of the point. The rookie rider was also passed on the last lap by Pourcel, who pulled off a podium finish. Wilson held on to take fourth only a split second behind his teammate.

Canard’s teammate Justin Barcia rounded out the top five in the main. Barcia’s night started off rough. The rookie grabbed the holeshot in his heat race only to hit the ground in the first corner. Barcia got going again quickly, but went on to crash two more times in his heat before finishing fifth.

Broc Tickle finished sixth followed by Martin Davalos and Travis Baker. Ryan Morais and Canard finished out the top ten in Las Vegas.
