Kurtis Roberts, the youngest son of three-time World Champion Kenny Roberts and the brother of 2000 500cc World Champion Kenny Roberts Jr., will return to racing at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California, May 14-16, on an Ace Racing Yamaha R1, according to a release issued today by the racetrack. The Ace Racing team has its roots in Sonoma County with the Ace Robey-owned team based in nearby Windsor.”With the race in our own backyard, it was a perfect time to give it a shot,” said Roberts in the release. “My last race was in October of 2008. It’s been difficult to put together my own team with the current economy, and I’ve tried to find and do it all by myself as best I can, but it just comes down to the lack of funding available.”Roberts, 31, has an extensive racing resume, including two championships in the AMA Formula Xtreme class (1999, 2000), as well as the AMA SuperSport class (2000). Roberts also raced internationally in the 250cc World Championship, MotoGP World Championship and World Superbike Championship. .”I’m hungry for the track and all its excitement,” said Roberts. “I’ve missed the feel of race day, the feel you get when you hit the grid, seeing the stands full of fans, and I’ve truly missed my friends.”Roberts will return to the track during the West Coast Moto Jam with practice and qualifying on Friday, and American SuperBike main events on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to AMA Pro Road Racing, the weekend will also feature Supermoto USA, Motocross, Flat Track and the first zero-carbon motorcycle race on U.S. soil with the TTXGP U.S. Championships.
