The following is a press release from Supercross Media…To preview tomorrow’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, race from Salt Lake City’s Rice-Eccles Stadium, Utah Governor Gary Herbert joined AMA Supercross class champion Ryan Dungey, current AMA Supercross Lites class points leader Jake Weimer and President of the Utah Sports Commission Jeff Robbins at a press conference today.“The Utah Sports Commission is proud to bring back Monster Energy Supercross to Utah for the second consecutive season,” said Jeff Robbins, CEO and President of the Utah Sports Commission. “This is a world-class event, and Rice-Eccles is the perfect place to showcase the talent of these great athletes.”Monster Energy Supercross will bring a $9 million economic impact to Salt Lake City. Last year more than 40,000 fans packed Rice-Eccles Stadium to showcase its first tour stop since 2004.“This type of event is very important to Utah’s economy, and there are a lot of people that worked very hard to bring this race back to Salt Lake City”, said Governor Herbert. “I have great respect for what these racers do and wish all of them the best of luck Saturday night.”“Salt Lake City is a special place for me; last year I won my Lites class championship here, and this year I will ride my first race as the champion,” said Dungey. “I’d like to thank Mark Burke from Rice-Eccles Stadium, Jeff Robbins from the Utah Sports Commission and Governor Herbert for the opportunity to race in the great state of Utah.“I have a 19-point lead coming into tomorrow night’s race, and I feel really comfortable here because I grew up Idaho riding in the wet conditions,” said Weimer. “I will have a lot of family and friends on hand to support me tomorrow night, and I hope to win my first championship.”The first supercross race held at Rice-Eccles Stadium took place in 2001 where 42,135 packed the home of the 2002 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies to watch Ricky Carmichael race to victory.Tickets are available at www.SupercrossOnline.com, www.utahtickets.com, by phone at 801-581-UTIX, the Rice-Eccles Box Office, Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com, and participating Yamaha dealerships.
