Ryan Villopoto Injury Update

Jean Turner | April 19, 2010

Fortunately for Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, his injuries aren’t as bad as they could have been after his horrifying get-off at the St. Louis Supercross. But it looks as though Villopoto’s season will still end in heartbreak. The former Supercross Lites champion reportedly suffered a broken right tibia and fibula in St. Louis. The Sunday following the race, he had minor surgery to stabilize and set the bones. The Kawasaki team reports that he will be continuing care with specialists to repair any further damage that may need tending to.

Television reports also mentioned blood coming from Villopoto’s mouth at the scene of the crash, but it turns out the blood that was visible was coming from a gash under his chin, relieving any suspicion that the Kawasaki rider suffered any type of internal injuries. Aside from the broken lower leg and chin gash, no other injuries were reported. As of Monday, April 19, no timetable has been set for his return to racing.
