Flat Track Testing In Arizona

Press Release | April 5, 2010

The following is from AMA Pro Racing…

AMA Pro Racing conducted a track test on Saturday, April 3rd at Yavapai Downs in Prescott Valley, AZ in preparation for the Budweiser Arizona Mile, scheduled for May 1st.

Yavapai Downs is hosting two crucial AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship mile races as the first and last twins races for the 2010 series. It is important that AMA Pro Racing and the staff of Yavapai Downs each understands the requirements it will take to host a successful event.

The test was conducted with AMA Pro Racing Flat Track Operations Manager Steve Morehead on hand along with national champion contender Jake Johnson riding the Zanotti Harley-Davidson XR750. After a day of testing everyone came away with a clear vision what it will take to create a national caliber track.

National number #5 Jake Johnson said, “I was impressed with the commitment everyone was making to ensure we have a good race track. It didn’t take long for Steve and the crew to find a base that will work, I expect us to lay down rubber for a very fast race track.”

“At times it can be a challenge running motorcycles on a mile horse track,” said Steve Morehead, AMA Pro Racing Flat Track Operations Manager. “After the test we now have a plan in place that will prepare a race track which will showcase how exciting mile dirt track motorcycle racing can be.”

“In a single day we learned a lot about motorcycle racing,” said Gary Spiker, General Manager Yavapai Downs. “Steve and Jake did a great job with our staff today providing valuable information to insure we get it right. Needless to say I was extremely impressed with the speed and sound of motorcycles on our mile track.”
