Canard Dominates in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, JAN. 30 – GEICO Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard put a stop to Weimer’s win streak by taking the Lites win in San Francisco, round four of the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites series. Canard took a convincing win as he led all 15 laps of the main event with Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer taking second and Broc Tickle rounding out the podium in third.

Canard started the night off with a win in his heat race after successfully fending off a hard-charging Josh Hansen. In the main event it was TLD Honda rider Cole Seely who nabbed the holeshot (picking up the $1000 Spike holeshot award), but two turns later, Canard was in control and dominated the remaining 14 laps of the race.

Weimer ran a strong second throughout the rather uneventful race, and Tickle ran his DNA Shred Stix/Division 7 Yamaha in a strong third, also going unheaded all the way to the checkered flag.

Josh Hansen was looking to better his fortunes in San Francisco, but was off to a disappointing start as once again he ran wide off the start and quickly found himself off the track. Hansen was off to a nearly dead-last start but sliced his way through the pack riding his Pro Circuit KX250F like he was mad at it. Hanny worked his way up into the top ten but only had time to work his way into seventh before the finish.

Canard is glad to get his first win of the season out of the way and come out of San Francisco with a good dose of confidence. His teammate Blake Wharton, however, had a rather disastrous night, crashing in his heat race and going on to qualify in the LCQ. In the main event Wharton crashed off the start and was over half a lap down on the pack before he got his CRF250R re-lit and moving again. Wharton was only able to salvage a 13th place finish.

The Troy Lee Designs Honda duo of Wil Hahn and Cole Seely finished fourth and fifth, respectively followed by Travis Baker, Hansen and British rookie Max Anstie. Moto Concepts Yamaha rider Jeff Alessi and KTM-mounted Phil Nicoletti rounded out the top ten in San Francisco.
