Camier To Aprilia

Gordon Ritchie | November 29, 2009

The Airwaves Yamaha team has confirmed rumors from Europe that newly crowned British Superbike Champion Leon Camier would ride the factory Aprilia RSV4 this weekend in the World Superbike round in Magny Cours, France.Camier, who wrapped up the British Championship this past weekend on the team’s Yamaha R1, will replace Shinya Nakano at Magny Cours as Max Biaggi’s teammate. Last weekend 250cc World Champion Marco Simoncelli rode the bike in Nakano’s place, crashing out of the first race but ending up third in the second in his World Superbike debut weekend.Camier dominated the 2009 British Superbike Championship, winning 17 races en route to the title. Camier is being temporarily released from his contract with the Yamaha team and will rejoin them for the final round of the BSB Series at Oulton Park in October.Camier finished 13th and 16th in the two World Superbike races in England earlier in the year as  wild card on his Airwaves Yamaha.”I would like to thank Aprilia for giving me such an amazing opportunity, and also GSE Racing for being so supportive,” Camier said in a team release. “This year has been incredible. To follow my BSB Championship win with a ride on-board a proven race winning machine in World Superbikes, is awesome. It’s going to be a tough challenge for sure. There’ll be no time for testing beforehand, and I’ve never ridden at Magny Cours, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
