Alessi Looks Ahead

We spoke with Mike Alessi today to get an update on his rehab from injury and found out that he’s been cleared by his doctors to get back on the bike on August 22nd. Alessi originally broke his kneecap in a practice crash before the High Point round of the outdoor national series and then re-injured the same knee when he crashed while trying to make an early return to the series at the Colorado round. According to Alessi, his plans are to return for a Supercross in Sweden on September 11th.

“I won’t try to come back for any of the remaining outdoor rounds, it’s too risky and there’s nothing to gain,” said Alessi. “The knee feels good and I’m excited about getting back to business, and like before, I won’t let anything stand in the way of my goals. But I don’t plan on taking any unnecessary risks.”

“I’ll be back in the gym next week and everything is looking good,” he added. “You get hurt and it just makes you that much more hungry to get back on the bike. I’m definitely looking forward to getting back out there.”

“I want to make sure I thank all the doctors who have helped me in this process,” Alessi said. “I want to give a big plug to Dr. Joe Prudhomme, Dr. Micheal Mareska, Dr. Luke Perrier, and Dr. Gabriel Stine for backing me and being there 100% for me. After my crash in Colorado, they were really patient with me and worked together to get me back in good shape. I also want to thank them for supporting me in my decision to race Colorado.”

As far as Alessi’s team plans for next year, even though Suzuki has the first right of refusal, chances are he will move on, and right now he is weighing his options with two other manufacturers.

“We’ve been talking to several teams – both factory and support – and at the same time we are talking to a lot of sponsors,” said Alessi. “I will do my own team if I have to, but we’ve got a couple of offers and I will be back for Supercross, for sure.”
