Rattray Has Surgery On Thumb

Shan Moore | July 7, 2009

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Tyla Rattray crashed in the second 250 moto of the RedBud round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships in Buchanan, Michigan, this past weekend, breaking his thumb and leaving doubts as to his status for the rest of the season. The word today is that the South African underwent successful surgery this afternoon in California to have a plate inserted in his thumb, which will allow him to return for the final four rounds of the series, missing only two rounds in all.

After finishing sixth in the opening moto at RedBud, Rattray went down hard on the first lap of moto two, just before the finish, and was carted off to mobile medical for evaluation. Rattray currently sits fifth overall in the 250 series standings, four points behind Brett Metcalfe.
