Zemke to World Superbike

Erion Honda’s Jake Zemke is likely to race the Stiggy Honda CBR1000RR in place of the injured John Hopkins at the upcoming World Superbike rounds in Monza and Salt Lake City.Zemke, who qualified the Erion Honda sixth for today’s Daytona SportBike race at Barber Motorsports Park, has asked permission to race the Honda next weekend at the historic Autodromo Nationale Monza, site of the fifth round of the championship.”He asked if he could race at Monza and Miller (Motorsports Park) and I said ‘yes,'” Erion Honda team owner Kevin Erion said in the Barber paddock.Zemke won’t be able to join Stiggy Honda’s Leon Haslam for the May 16-17 WSB round in Kyalami, South Africa because of a conflict with the AMA race at Infineon Raceway.Hopkins suffered a dislocated hip during practice for the Dutch round of the WSB championship last weekend. He returned to California where surgery was performed by renowned sports specialist Dr. Arthur Ting. Hopkins was initially hopeful of returning in time for the May 29-31 U.S. round of the series in Utah.
