Yamaha Austria Wins Le Mans

The Yamaha Austria Racing Team of Igor Jerman, Steve Martin and Gwen Giabbani earned their first-ever Le Mans 24 Hour victory with the trio beating Honda France’s Sébastien Charpentier, Matthieu Lagrive and Steve Plater by seven laps at the Bugatti Circuit in France.

Third place went to the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team of Guillaume Dietrich, Vincent Philippe and Barry Veneman.

The opening round of the 2009 Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship was hotly contested with three different manufacturers on the podium.

Jason Pridmore had a serious crash on the Yamaha BK Maco Moto Racing Team entry, which put the team out of the race at  3 a.m.

More than 92,000 spectators attended this year’s race, according to the FIM.
