Gibson Takes Arenacross Championship

Jeff Gibson wrapped up the 2009 AMA Arenacross Championship with a 1-2 performance at the final round of the series in the Bank of Kentucky Center in Highland Heights, Kentucky. The Mahindra Tractors/Tuf Honda-backed Gibson came into the weekend needing only to qualify for the main event on one of the two nights in order to clinch the title. But rather than play it safe, Gibson held nothing back, moving quickly to the front in Friday’s final where he held Spinechiller’s Honda’s Nathan Skaggs at bay for most of the race before pulling away to claim his sixth win of the season and the title.

According to Gibson, the secret to this year’s championship was consistency, and as it turns out Gibson was the poster boy for consistency this year, finishing outside of the top-10 only once all year. He also started the season with seven consecutive podium finishes, including two victories in that stretch. Once he moved into the points lead, Gibson never relinquished his hold on the top of the standings.

“This is just awesome,” said Gibson. “It’s been a long season and I’ve been fortunate to have things work out for me. My bikes have been amazing all season and I could not have accomplished this without the help of my Tuf Honda team. I’m proud to be an Arenacross champion and it’s a pleasure to be part of such a fantastic series.”
