WERA Offers Condolences

The 2009 Season kicked off at Autoclub Speedway (formerly California Speedway) in Fontana, CA on January 4, 2009 with the Pirelli/WERA Sportsman Series presented by Lucas Oil. Fastrack Riders held a Practice on January 3, 2009 that saw many of the WERA riders taking advantage of track time to prepare for the WERA races on Sunday, the 4th. Over 150 riders took the grids Sunday in some very exciting racing. Mother Nature gave us windy, cool, but sunny weather for the day. WERA Motorcycle Roadracing introduced the Women’s Superstock Class this year at WERA West Pirelli Sportsman Rounds presented by Lucas Oil and Angie Loy was the first winner followed by Melissa Paris and Joy Higa in the Expert Class. Kristi Martel took the Novice Win in WSS. Multiple winners for the weekend included Expert Racers Chris Ulrich in A Superbike; A Superstock and Formula 1 and Zoran Vujasinovic in the D Superbike and Clubman Classes; Novice Santiago Campa took the win in C Superbike Novice and C Superstock Novice; to see all other race winners check the WERA web site.

WERA Motorcycle Roadracing extends their condolences to the family and friends of racer, Joe Lopez, #620 who crashed and succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

The 2009 WERA West/Pirelli Sportsman Series presented by Lucas Oil will be at Las Vegas Speedway on January 23/24/25 weekend, with open practice on Friday, Solo and Vintage races on Saturday and Sprint racing on Sunday.
