Fritz Kling, the tall and friendly former Harley-Davidson factory Superbike racer, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, in Lansing, Mich., after an extended battle with brain cancer.
He was 41.
A national contender in AMA 750 Supersport racing in the early 1990s, Kling earned a slew of podium finishes in the class. He finished third in the series in 1992 behind Scott Russell and Jason Pridmore. Kling was an integral member of the powerful AMA SuperTeams squad Dutchman Racing. He also was a leading contender in Formula USA during the mid-1990s.
Kling helped develop Harley-Davidson’s VR1000 as one of the bike’s primary test riders. He became a factory Superbike rider in 1994 for Harley-Davidson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 10, 2008, 4:00 p.m. at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing.
