INDIANAPOLIS, IN, SEPT 13: The future of American road racing may be known as early as this coming Wednesday.
The Motorcycle Industry Council board of directors meets on Wednesday to discuss, among other things, whether they’ll move forward with the USSB Championship, the road race series they announced last Wednesday, Sept. 10. The press release stated that the MIC “will launch a new professional road racing series next year in the United States.”
The MIC series would be an alternative to the Daytona Motorsports Group-run AMA Superbike Championship.
Whether the series launches is dependent on the decision by the board of directors. MIC President Tim Buche, in an interview in the MIC hospitality suite at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, said, “Our next important date is the MIC board of directors meeting this next Wednesday and coming out of that we may have comment and definitive plans.”
Though Buche didn’t say it, it’s widely known that Daytona Motorsports Group CEO Roger Edmondson has plans to meet with at least one senior representative of one of the dissident American distributors of the Japanese manufacturers. That meeting could well determine the future of American road racing.
