At the last round in Road Atlanta, Gagne took his debut win in the class, the ex-motocrosser showing that he was beginning to get a grasp on this road racing thing as he held off Gillim at that race as well.

This time, Gagne survived a near highside to top Gillim, the Owensboro, Kentucky resident and cousin of MotoGP start Nicky Hayden suffering from a bad cold and feeling the effects of the ailment at the end of the race.
