Alessi To Undergo Surgery On Monday

A phone call to Mike Alessi’s father, Tony, confirmed the rumors that Mike fell at the Suzuki test track on Wednesday and suffered a broken leg. “Mike was looking really good,” said Tony. “He was riding with Chad [Reed] and [Ryan] Dungey and Chad was jumping these four jumps and Mike did it perfectly the first time but on the second try he clipped one of them and ended up going over the berm.” Alessi suffered a broken tibia and fibula in his left leg in the incident and will undergo surgery on Monday. “I’ve had no experience with this kind of injury so I have no idea how long to expect him to be out,” added Tony. “That’s something we won’t know until after the surgery.” At the time of his crash, Alessi was in the process of making a comeback after a crash at Red Bud which left him with a broken scapula and broken ribs. Before the Red Bud crash, Alessi was sitting solidly in second place in the outdoor series after a strong start to the season.
