Hayes Gets His First Supersport Win

ALTON, VA, AUG 17: Erion Honda’s Josh Hayes got a lot done in the Supersport final at Virginia International Raceway. He won his first Supersport race of the year, he added the Supersport win to Saturday’s Formula Xtreme win, and he stopped Ben Bostrom’s win streak at three. Hayes was away at the start while a string of riders tried to catch up, but with little success. He gradually eased away from the field and, once the lead went over a second, on the fifth lap, it grew quickly. By then Bostrom was in second, having passed teammate Josh Herrin on lap three, but there was no catching Hayes. He continued to speed away, winning the 17-lap race by 5.781 seconds. Bostrom didn’t have much rest from the persistent Herrin until the final few laps when the younger rider was no longer a threat. Herrin was third with over seven seconds on the battle for fourth that went to M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Blake Young narrowly over Erion Honda’s Jake Zemke. Bostrom’s second place finish, his second of the year, gives him 290 points to 271 for Zemke. Hayes is third with 245. Sixth went to Shae Fouchek (Hon) by a tenth of a second over Graves Motorsports Yamaha’s Tommy Aquino. Supersport: 1. Josh Hayes (Honda) 2. Ben Bostrom (Yamaha) 3. Josh Herrin (Yamaha) 4.
