LEXINGTON, OH, AUG. 3, 2008 – Owensboro, Kentucky’s Hayden Gillim turned his pole position into a race victory today – his first career win in the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup Series. Gillim’s performance was flawless. He led off the line from pole position and steadily drew away from a dramatic five-rider battle for second place. After easing his pace in the final few laps, Gillim crossed the line 3.3 seconds clear of that battle to record his first-ever win. Gillim’s first win comes hot on the heels of his second and third place finishes at the last round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The Kentuckian had also crashed out of the lead at Road America back in June. Second place ultimately went to series points leader Benny Solis, the Californian holding back Argentina’s Leandro Mercado, Californians Jacob Gagne and Joey Pascarella and Columbia’s Tomas Puerta as those three fought it out for the runner-up spot. Austin Dehaven ended up seventh over Emerson Connor with Jacob Morman holding off Cameron Gish for ninth place. Rookies Cup Final 1. Hayden Gillim 2. Benny Solis 3. Leandro Mercado 4. Jacob Gagne 5. Joey Pascarella 6. Tomas Puerta 7. Austin Dehaven 8. Emerson Connor 9. Jacob Mormon 10. Cameron Gish
