Bostrom Takes Mid-Ohio Supersport

LEXINGTON, OH, AUG. 3, 2008 – When it’s time to go, you gotta go. And for Ben Bostrom it was time to go on the fifth lap. That’s when he made his move for the lead at the end of Mid-Ohio’s backstraight and that’s when he decided to put his head down and pull away from the chasing pack that at times numbered 12 riders. And go he did. A lap after taking the lead, Bostrom and his Graves Yamaha R6 led by half a second. He would stretch it every lap after that, getting it to 2.9 seconds with a lap to go and then slowing to ultimately win the Supersport podium by 2.7 seconds. Behind him came a duo that battled to the end after also breaking clear, the pack separating itself after the early laps of a 12-rider freighttrain. That duo was Team EMGP M4 Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas and Erion Honda’s Josh Hayes. Hayes took over second place on the 14th lap, but lost it on the final lap when Cardenas came by on the brakes at the end of the backstraight. That gave him second because Hayes had nowhere in which to retaliate. Fourth place went to Cardenas’ teammate Blake Young, narrowly besting Erion Honda’s Jake Zemke and Attack Kawasaki’s Steve Rapp, the trio crossing the line within .4 of a second of each other. Behgind them, at a distance, came Cory West. West topped Bobby Fong, Chaz Davies and Tommy Aquino. Bostrom continues to lead the championship points chase with 267 – 22 better than Zemke’s 245. Hayes is third with 207 points. Supersport Final 1. Ben Bostrom (Yamaha) 2. Martin Cardenas (Suzuki) 3. Josh Hayes (Honda) 4. Blake Young (Suzuki) 5. Jake Zemke (Honda) 6. Steve Rapp (Kawasaki) 7. Cory West (Suzuki) 8. Bobby Fong (Suzuki) 9. Chaz Davies (Kawasaki) 10. Tommy Aquino (Suzuki)
