Pedrosa Update

The following is from Repsol Honda… The Repsol Honda Team rider, Dani Pedrosa, checked into hospital – the USP Instituto Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona – at 22:00 yesterday Sunday, for a complete medical examination and to determine the exact reach of the damage he sustained after falling in yesterday`s race, the German GP. Pedrosa went to the ground in the rain at the beginning of the sixth lap when he was leading the race by seven seconds. After a preliminary examination in the Mobile Clinic at the Sachsenring circuit, the rider – from Castellar del Vallés Spain – flew to Barcelona to be treated by Doctor Xavier Mir and his medical team at the USP Instituto Universitari Dexeus, where he spent the night. After completing all the necessary tests, the Chief of the Surgery and Microsurgery-Unit, Dr. Xavier Mir, in cooperation with the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus, has declared that “Dani Pedrosa presents a general inflammation of the left hand with hematomas in the sheathes of both extending tendons. The pilot shows a displaced fracture of the distal phalanx of the left pointing finger, which has been reduced. Further on, the patient presents a sprain of the proximal interphalaxical joint of the middle finger of the left hand which has been totally immobilized. Finally, he has undergone a fixation of a fracture of the big bone of the left wrist by an arthroscopic technique. It is confirmed that the patient has suffered a lateral external sprain of the right ankle.” The Repsol Honda Team rider will remain in hospital and an evaluation of his injuries over the next 32 hours will determine whether he can participate in the United States GP this coming weekend.
