Patterson Wins Washougal WMA

| July 29, 2008

Jessica Patterson ended a long drought by claiming her first win of the 2008 AMA/WMA National Motocross Championship at round four of the series at Washougal Motocross Park, in Washougal, Washington, June 26-27. The five-time series champion overcame a first-moto fall to post a 2-1 score en route to an impressive victory over current points leader Honda’s Ashley Fiolek.

Fiolek jumped out to the early lead in moto one, held on Saturday, with Patterson and Suzuki-mounted Sherri Cruse in tow. Patterson was able to move by Fiolek on the opening lap to take the lead, but a crash a few turns later dropped Patterson to third behind Cruse.

Patterson was able to regain the runner-up position by the finish as Fiolek motored on to the opening moto win.

The second moto was all Paterson, however, as she powered into the lead at the start and pulled a six-second gap, which she maintained to the finish. Fiolek finished the moto in second place to claim second overall while Yamaha-mounted Tarah Geiger took third overall via 5-3 moto finishes.

Fiolek now leads Patterson by 34 points in the standings, 187-153, while Whitmore sits in third at 139.
