Stewart Wins First Motocross-Class Moto at Freestone

Kawasaki’s James Stewart claimed his fifth-straight moto win of the season with a decisive 17-second victory over Suzuki’s Mike Alessi in moto one of the Motocross class this afternoon at Freestone County Raceway.

Stewart, in fact, had to pass Alessi twice in the moto to take the win, as Alessi grabbed the holeshot and led the opening lap before Stewart found his way around on lap two to take the lead. Stewart then bobbled shortly thereafter and dropped all the way back to fourth, before charging his way to the front in the 100 degree heat, taking the lead for good on lap seven.

Alessi held on to take second with Honda’s Andrew Short, the hometown favorite, claiming the final podium position.

Honda’s Davi Millsaps ran as high as second before fading to a distant fifth behind Suzuki privateer Cody Cooper.

Honda-mounted Ivan Tedesco finished sixth while Kawasaki’s Tim Ferry charged from the rear of the pack after a first-lap mishap to eventually finish seventh.

Michael Byrne (Suz), Charles Summey (Yam) and Antonio Balbi (Hon) rounded out the top 10.
