Springfield Mile Postponed to Monday

The Memorial Day AMA Grand National racing activities in Springfield, Illinois, will be extended an extra day. AMA officials postponed the race until Monday, making the call about 11:00 am Sunday after heavy rains all morning.

Around noon the weather began to clear causing some fans to question the early postponement.

Henry Wiles, winner of Saturday night’s TT, said he thought the call was a good one.

“You could sit around all day and not get anything done,” he said. “Nothing could be worse than to sit around all day and have the thing postponed later in the day. At least everyone knows what’s going on now and we can all get out and have lunch, catch a movie or enjoy some time with friends.”

The forecast for Monday is better with only a chance of widely scattered showers.

Racing on Monday will go according to Sunday’s schedule with practice slated to begin at 10:30 am and opening ceremonies at 1:00 pm.
