Reed Wins US Open SX

Chad Reed pocketed $50,000, tonight, after winning the “trifecta” at the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The trifecta amounts to setting the fastest lap in the Superpole competition, grabbing the holeshot in the main event, and then winning the 20-lap main event, all of which Reed did successfully.

Reed elbowed his way past Makita Suzuki’s Mike Alessi down the start straight to put his San Manuel Racing/ Yamaha into the lead after the start, and then pulled away to an easy win, while Team Yamaha’s Grant Langston followed in second.

Kawasaki’s Tim Ferry ran in third during the early stages of the race but eventually gave way to Honda-mounted Andrew Short.

Shorty held on for third, behind Langston, with Ferry finishing fourth and Alessi fifth.

If Reed can duplicate the feat tomorrow, he will take home $250,000.

Mike LaRocco won the Past Champion’s Rematch, beating Jeff Emig and Damon Huffman. LaRocco looked particularly smooth on his Honda 250 two-stroke, while both Emig and Huffman elected to ride four-strokes.
