Grant Langston further solidified his chances for this year’s AMA Motocross title by claiming the win in the opening moto of the Motocross division at the final round of the series at Glen Helen Raceway, in San Bernardino, California.

KTM’s Mike Alessi pretty much led the entire moto after passing holeshotter Andrew Short during the early stages, but with two laps to go in the race, Langston put his factory Yamaha into the lead and pulled away for the win.

Short brought his Honda home in third, while Kawasaki’s Tim Ferry beat out Sobe No Fear/Samsung/Honda’s Kevin Windham for fourth.

Mike Brown, riding a MDK-backed Honda, finished sixth with New Zealand’s Cody Cooper in seventh on a privateer Honda.

For most of the race, Ferry, Langston, Alessi, Windham, and Short were all in contention for the win, however, both Ferry and Windham fell at the bottom of the big downhill, leaving Short, Langston and Alessi to fight over the lead.

Langston now carries a 13-point lead over Short into the final moto.
