Getting Started At Budds Creek

It’s Friday afternoon and thousands of spectators have already started to pour into Budds Creek MX Park at Budds Creed, Maryland, for the 61st edition of the Red Bull Motocross of Nations, which gets underway tomorrow afternoon with qualifying races for all teams.

Tomorrow, 35 teams will compete in three qualifying races (MX1, MX2 and Open), paring the field down to the final 20 teams which will compete for the Chamberlain Trophy on Sunday.

The pits are all set up and riders have been walking the track and checking out the facilities.

The big buzz in the pits is that some of the crates shipped from Italy have been detained in customs in New York because some food goods, including wine and pasta, were shipped in the crates with bikes and parts, causing the hold up. This means that bikes belonging to Italian team members Antonio Cairoli (Yam) and David Phillippaerts (KTM), along with team bikes for Spain’s Jonathan Barragan (KTM), and England’s Tommy Searle, are stuck in customs.

We have heard that World Champion Cairoli says that he will not ride unless he has his official race bike.
