Woods Wins Washington WORCS

| August 13, 2007

Monster/ Kawasaki’s Nathan Woods captured the overall win at the eighth round of the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) in Olympia, Washington, August 12.

Woods got out in front early in the two-hour race and spent much of the first half dicing with teammate and defending WORCS champ Ricky Dietrich. Dietrich led for a while until he stumbled in the log section, where he lost the lead to Woods. Later on, bike problems would drop him to fourth.

Woods went on to win, while Red Bull KTM’s Kurt Caselli and Yamaha rider Bobby Bonds spent much of the race working their way up through the pack. Caselli ended up putting his KTM into second place, while Bonds put his privateer Yamaha on the podium in third. Dietrich finished fourth, while Honda rider Robby Bell rounded out the top five overall.

The series points leader going into the race, Suzuki’s Ryan Hughes had a tough day. Hughes crashed near the halfway point and retired to the pits. The DNF was costly for Hughes, as he drops from first to second in the series points standing, with Caselli moving into first place. With four rounds left, three riders still have a shot at the title, with Caselli leading, followed by Hughes and Woods.
