Peoria Rained Out

Cycle News Staff | August 20, 2007
Heavy rains washed out the famed Peoria TT on Sunday and the race will not be rescheduled.

With the sixth round of the AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Singles Championship being cancelled, the next round will take place on September 1 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena short track.

American Suzuki’s Jake Johnson has an 11 point lead, 74 to 63, over Bettencourt Honda’s Kenny Coolbeth in the quest for the singles title.

Rain throughout the weekend had soaked the track, but the Peoria Motorcycle Club did a good job to get the track ready for qualifying less than two hours late.

Two attempts to run the first heat ended in red flags. The second heat was gridded in a light rain that turned into a downpour, ending the day’s racing.
