Halbert Wins Castle Rock

Paul Carruthers | August 11, 2007
Local hot shot Sammy Halbert came from the second row to win the first AMA Grand National dirt track of his career last night in the fourth round of the eight-round AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Singles Championship at the historic Castle Rock Race Park.

Riding the Memphis Shades/Yamaha/Parts Unlimited-backed Yamaha, Halbert came from behind to take the win in the red-flag interrupted race, topping American Suzuki’s JR Schnabel. To make it an even better night for the Halberts, Sammy’s older brother Jethro rode well to finish third, putting both of the Halberts on the podium.

Bettencourt Honda’s Kenny Coolbeth worked his way into fourth with Jared Mees, Lanpheres Beaverton-Renton Honda’s Joe Kopp and defending race and series Champion American Suzuki/Parts Unlimited’s Jake Johnson locked in a fierce battle over fifth.

Fast heat winner Chris Carr saw his miserable 2007 season continue as he lost a chain while leading the National.
