Ferry Fastest at Colorado MX Practice

Shan Moore | July 21, 2007

Practice got underway today at round seven of the AMA Motocross Championship in Lakewood, Colorado, and Kawasaki’s Tim Ferry logged the fastest time of the day in the 450 class, followed by Sobe No Fear/Samsung/Honda’s Kevin Windham and Team Yamaha’s Grant Langston.

In the Lites division, it was Monster Energy Kawasaki teammates Ryan Villopoto and Ben Townley with the fastest times, with Villopoto posting the quickest lap, which was just under two tenths of a second faster than Townley’s fastest lap. Sobe No Fear/Samsung/Honda’s Josh Grant was third fastest.

The big news in Colorado centers around Kawasaki’s James Stewart, who crashed heavily during practice at last week’s round at Unadilla and was forced to sit that race out.

According to his team, Stewart is still very sore but will ride practice in the morning and then determine if he will ride tomorrow’s race.

Another big story is the heat, which is expected to near the century mark tomorrow. The high temperature combined with the extreme altitude of the mile-high venue will put an enormous amount of physical stress on both bike and rider. At last year’s race, several bikes (and riders) dropped out of the race for various reasons.
