Coolbeth Again At Hagerstown

Paul Carruthers | July 29, 2007
The rain stayed away long enough last night for Harley-Davidson Motor Company/Screamin’ Eagle’s Kenny Coolbeth to take his third straight win in the 2007 Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Twins Championship, this one coming at the Hagerstown Half Mile in Maryland.

Rain soaked the facility just as the program was getting ready to start, but after a delay and a shortened program was put into effect, racing was able to get going and when it did there was no stopping Coolbeth. The defending Grand National Champion finished third in his heat race, but in the National he fought from behind, eventually working his way into the lead. From there he pulled away, beating his teammate Bryan Smith by 6.1 seconds. Blue Springs Screamin’ Eagle Harley-Davidson’s Jared Mees, the points leader going into Hagerstown, ended up third.

American Suzuki’s Jake Johnson was fourth over Bryan Bigelow and Joe Kopp. Chris Carr rode his Harley-Davidson to seventh over Raun Wood. Ricky Marshall and Shaun Russell rounded out the top 10 on their Harleys.

Coolbeth now leads Mees, 141-139, in the title chase. Johnson is third with 102 points, one better than Smith.
