MT. MORRIS, MAY 26: Ricky Carmichael was nearly two seconds faster than James Stewart in timed practice today as he prepares to bid farewell to the legendary High Point Raceway course at round two of the 2007 Toyota AMA Motocross Championship Presented by FMF, which will take place tomorrow afternoon.

Carmichael put his Makita Suzuki atop the time charts with a fastest lap of 1:58.718, while Stewart circulated the loamy course on his factory Kawasaki with a quickest time of 2:00.429. Stewart’s practice was cut short due to a crash, but he is reportedly in good shape and looking forward to renewing the rivalry in tomorrow’s race.

Yamaha’s Grant Langston, of Clermont, Fla., was third fastest with a 2:03.410.

In the Lites division, Ben Townley validated his opening round win in Sacramento with a fast-lap time of 2:03.953, just over a second faster than the 2:05.103 of Kawasaki teammate Ryan Villopoto, while Honda’s Josh Grant was third with a 2:05.256.

The course was in perfect condition, today, but thunderstorms are forecast for this evening and it is anyone’s guess what tomorrow will bring as far as weather and conditions.
