Defending WORCS Champion, Ricky Dietrich suffered a broken humerus (upper arm) during the parade lap of round two of the WORCS series in Adelanto, California on February 18, 2007 underwent surgery this morning, February 26, 2007. Dietrich was operated on having the broken bones set with plates and screws with hopes of “healing faster and stronger.”
“The humerus was broken high up near the rotator cuff,” said Dietrich after the surgery. “So we decided that the best course of action would be to go ahead and get it all bolted back together. That way it will heal faster and stronger and I can get back to racing quicker.”
Dietrich’s doctors report the surgery was completely successful. Dietrich hopes to return to the WORCS series possibly as early as June for the Toutle, Washington round. “I’m looking at about three months before I’ll be ready to race,” said Dietrich. “Maybe not even that long. I’ll be back on a bike sooner than that and then we’ll see.”
Dietrich had a “Cinderella Season” in 2006, winning the WORCS Championship, an ISDE Gold medal, and was a member of the ISDE winning World Junior Trophy Team. He began the 2007 season by winning the opening round of the WORCS series on January 21 in Phoenix, Arizona.
