Vuillemin Wins Night Two at Bercy SX

Shan Moore | November 11, 2006

PARIS, FRANCE, NOV 11: David Vuillemin took a popular win on the second night of the Bercy Supercross, coming from fifth on the opening lap to beat out last night’s winner Christophe Pourcel by four seconds at the finish.

Josh Grant grabbed the holeshot at the start of the final and led the 16-rider field until a slip on the third lap dropped the Sobe/Samsung Honda rider to second behind Pourcel’s Monster/Pro Circuit Kawasaki. Grant charged back during the next few laps and block-passed Pourcel to regain the lead in a tight left-hander at the midway point. However, just as he did last night, Grant lost concentration a few turns later and crashed out of the race in a difficult rhythm section.

With Grant on the sidelines, Vuillemin moved his MDK Honda around Pourcel to take the lead and the win, while Yamaha of Troy’s Jason Lawrence was the top-placing American, with a third place finish.

As far as the rest of the American contingent, Justin Brayton, who finished second in last night’s final, wheelied off the start, but moved up to finish fifth on his Motoworldracing.com Yamaha, while Red Bull KTM’s Mike Alessi dropped out of the race after a crash on the third lap of the final. And Mike Brown (CAS Honda), who is competing in his 12th year at Bercy, failed to make the main after falling in his heat and LCQ.
