Sanchez Wins A Close One At Lake Elsinore GP

| November 13, 2006

It came down to the wire, but Honda rider Freddy Sanchez won the 10th running of the Harvey Mushman 100 at the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix in California, November 11-12. Sanchez suddenly found himself out in front when early leader Micky Griffin, who earlier had won the 250 Expert class, pulled out late in the race reportedly with mechanical problems.

Sanchez inherited a comfortable lead, but 16-year-old Amateur racer Travis Baker was coming up through the pack. On the last lap, Baker reeled in Sanchez and was showing the leader his front tire when the checkered flag came out. Sanchez held on for the win, followed by Baker.

Third went to KTM rider Kyle Beshaw, followed by Honda-mounted Spencer Wernli.

In other class action, Bruce Mirada won the 125 Expert class, Sara Price won the Women’s class, and Tracy Meeks won the 40-Plus Expert class.
