Everts Clinches 10th World MX Title

| August 7, 2006

Stefan Everts won his 10th (and last) World Motocross Championship at one of the most historical and treacherous motocross circuits in the world. Everts’ victory was never in doubt, leaving the Citadelle in Namur undefeated with eight wins and begins the last stages of a career that has seen him celebrate on so many magnificent occasions. A large crowd, his son Liam and partner Kelly watching from the sidelines, Everts was perfect going 1-1 and taking his 99th career Grand Prix victory.

“What a great day,” Everts said. “I never dared to dream to win here, it’s such a great place and such a unique circuit, and the atmosphere is incredible. It’s such an exciting feeling riding here. It’s not possible [to race again in 2007] – I decided to retire and I stick with that – I have had a great career.”

Josh Coppins and Steve Ramon finished second and third, respectively, to Everts at the Grand Prix. In the MX2 class, it was Antonio Carioli who won ahead of Christophe Pourcel and Sebastien Pourcel.

“I don’t think about who is behind me,” Cairoli said. “I tried to win here today, and in 2004, I won my first GP here, so to win both heats here and win the overall it really special for me..”
