Dietrich Gets First WORCS Win At Washougal

When Ryan Hughes broke his arm in the Unclassified “race” on Saturday morning, round seven of the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC World Off-Road Championship Series went up for grabs. But Team Green-supported Ricky Dietrich swore to himself that the race at Washougal MX Park, presented by Maxxis, would belong to him alone, and indeed the second-year Pro ended up leading from start to finish, winning his first career WORCS race in front of a number of family and friends.

“After what happened last year when my silencer broke while I was leading, I wanted to take some revenge,” Dietrich said. “It was definitely stolen from me; I pretty much had this race last year. When that gate dropped, full race mode, dude. I wanted it bad!”

All of the racing turned out to be behind Dietrich and his Carter Powersports/Maxxis/ARC-backed KX450F. After just under two hours of racing in the most off-road-oriented, technically challenging course this season, Team FMF Suzuki Off-Road’s Mike Kiedrowski worked his way up to second spot on his DP Brakes/RPM/M2R big-bore RM250 about a minute and a half behind Dietrich and seven seconds ahead of Team Green’s Destry Abbott, who scored his best result of the season on his Pro Circuit/Maxima/THOR KX450F.

Team Green’s Lance Smail and Zip-Ty Racing Yamaha racer Bobby Garrison rounded out the top five finishers in the event that was the second most heavily attended of the season so far.

Hughes still retains the series points lead at 166, but Dietrich now holds second, unofficially, with 136. Garrison drops from second to third in points with 130, unofficially, while Kiedrowski remains fourth at 129. Smail moves up to fifth at 90 points, unofficially, with Russell Pearson”seventh for the day”dropping a spot to sixth with 87. There are nine weeks until the series resumes at Cinebar, Washington, on August 12-13.
