Chad Johnson (pictured)lost a bit of ground in his bid for the Toyota AMA National Arenacross Championship, but still maintains a relatively comfortable lead after going 1-3 at round seven of the series held at Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Thor/Honda-backed Brock Sellards went 2-1 over the weekend and crept two points closer to Johnson in the title chase, but still trails the Team Yamaha rider by 17 points with only three rounds remaining on the schedule.
Last week’s double-event winner in Baltimore, Team Faith’s Kevin Johnson, suffered from a crash in Friday’s main and packed it in for the evening, but came back strong on Saturday to claim a second after giving way to Sellards with three laps left. Sellard’s teammate Jeff Northrop rounded out the podium on Friday.
In the Lites division, local hotshoe Chad Cook gave the locals something to cheer about by grabbing the holeshot in Friday’s main, but ultimately finished fourth behind Shawn Clark, Travis Hodges and Dennis Jonon.
On Saturday, Clark came from behind to take another win in a repeat of Friday night’s podium line up.
With seven rounds in the books, Chad Johnson leads the points standings with 302 points, followed by Sellards with 285 and Kevin Johnson with 252.
