Russ Pearson made it official yesterday ??“ he’s the new AMA Hare & Hound National Champion.

In Lucerne Valley, California, all that the Montclair Yamaha rider had to do was to pretty much just show up and the title would be his, but Pearson wanted more than that and came away with the race win, as well. In 2003, Pearson won his first hare and hound title, but handed it back to Destry Abbott in ’04.

Second on the day went to Honda rider Kendall Norman. It was a career-best finish for him, as it was for third-place finisher, KTM rider Matt Gosnall.

Honda rider Quinn Cody and Suzuki-mounted Luke Dodson rounded out the top five overall.

Destry Abbott was running second when a flat tire on the second loop slowed him down. He ended up eighth on the day and second in the series.

Third in the series ended up being a tie between Kawasaki Team Green’s David Pearson and Honda’s Steve Hengeveld.
