KTM’s Ben Townley and Tyla Rattray were the big winners at the Grand Prix of England over the weekend. Townley traded moto wins with Steve Roman, going 3-1 for the overall victory in the MX1 class. Rattray, on the other hand, didn’t win a moto but did come away with the MX2 class victory via 2-3 moto finishes.
In the MX1 class, Ramon finished ahead of Honda’s Mickael Pichon, Townley, Honda’s Josh Coppings and series points leader Stefan Everts. Townley, however, came back to win round two over Coppins, Pichon, Ramon and Everts. It was Townley’s fourth overall victory of the year.
Everts, however, still enjoys a comfortable points lead over Coppins, 621-576.
For Rattray, who has struggled with a knee injury all season, it was his second win of the year, and he did it via consistent riding. Second overall went to French rider Christophe Pourcel who posted 7-2 results, topping England’s Carl Nunn for third. Nunn posted 10-4 moto finishes.
Scotland’s Mackenzie, who won the first moto, crashed in the second moto.
In the close MX2 points race, series leader Antonio Cairoli opened a sizeable gap on Andrew McFarlane. With two rounds left, Cairoli has 522 points and McFarlane 482.
