Practice At Budds Creek

| June 18, 2005

Both the weather and track conditions were perfect today for practice at round four of the AMA National Motocross series at Budds Creek Motocross Park in Budds Creek, Maryland.

As has been the case at the previous three rounds of the series Team Makita Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael (4) posted the fastest lap times in both sessions of practice. He currently has a healthy points lead ahead of Team Yamaha’s Chad Reed (22) in the championship chase.

Carmichael’s best lap time was 2:33.426 minutes, while Reed was only a few seconds back with a time of 2:35.310 minutes. Team Kawasaki’s James Stewart was third quickest with a time of 2:35.864 minutes. After pulling out of last week’s race complaining of feeling light-headed Stewart looked to be back to his old speedy self.

In the 125 class Team Amsoil/Chaparral/Honda’s Billy Laninovich posted the fastest lap time. His best was a time of 2:40.587 minutes. Team Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ivan Tedesco was second after clocking a time of 2:41.920 minutes. Rookie pro Suzuki rider Jason Lawrence surprised everyone by turning in the third fastest lap of the class, and he did it in the unseeded rider practice. His best time was 2:42.015 minutes.

Last week’s overall winner Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Grant Langston was slightly off the pace. His best time was 2:44.357 minutes. Also out on the track was Team Red Bull KTM’s Mike Alessi. After winning the first moto last week in Southwick he crashed in the second moto and popped out his shoulder. Word is he is going to tough it out tomorrow for points.

As for the Budds Creek track, it underwent a bit of a face-lift. The track is being run in the opposite direction since last year, and a new supercross-style section was added to the back (Right). There were also truck loads of sawdust trucked in to help make for more loam.
