Jarrett Tops in Illinois

Funmart Yamaha’s Jimmy Jarrett scored the overall win at the penultimate round of the OMA Nationals in Morrison, Illinois, October 1. Jarrett finished ahead of Honda-mounted Nathan Kanney to take his first win of the inaugural eight-round off-road series. Jarrett’s win extended his series point lead over Kanney, 147-138.

Jarrett and Kanney took turns leading the 88-mile long race, along with eventual third-place finisher Adam McKillip (Yamaha), before Jarrett broke away from Kanney, who had to take a late-race gas stop, and McKillip, who missed a trail marker and got lost.

Jarrett said, “I was in no hurry to take the lead. This course uses a lot of the same trails as the Moose Run and I learned earlier this year that you can use up a lot of energy trying to set the pace early on. Nate and Adam rode a good race and it was only during the last couple of miles that I was able to breakaway. We each had our strengths, I’m just glad I was able to post my first win (of the series).”

Jarrett and Kanney find themselves seperated by nine points going into the last round with the overall winner taking home the lion’s share of the $20,000 purse. The last round of the series is scheduled for next weekend, November 8, in Anadarko, OK.
