WORCS Resumes

The World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) resumed after its “summer break” with Montclair Yamaha’s Ty Davis taking the win, his first of the year, at the ninth round of the series in Monticello, Utah, Sunday.

Rain on Saturday left the Utah course in good shape for Sunday’s Pro race and, like so many times this year, Davis and Montclair Yamaha/Zip-Ty Racing teammate Nathan Woods got out in front early and pulled away from the rest of the pack. The two riders stayed together until Woods crashed on the second-to-last lap, allowing fellow Yamaha rider Russ Pearson to get by and take over second place. At the end of the two-hour long race, Davis crossed the finish line in first ahead of Pearson in second and Woods, who still owns the series points lead, in third, making it a Yamaha sweep.

Kawasaki’s Lance Smail returned to action after having knee surgery earlier in the year, and the opening-round winner finished fourth. Smail’s teammates David Pearson and Destry Abbott finished fifth and sixth, respectively. KTM’s Kurt Caselli finished seventh, while the top Semi-Pro finisher, Ricky Dietrich (Kawasaki) finished eighth. KTM rider Bryce Olson and Kawasaki’s Brian Brown filled out the top 10 overall.
